Do you have a question for us?
How do I get into financial services ?
Very much depending on the level you want to get in at. Usually a sales background of some sort is preferred. Those people who have gained industry qualifications obviously have an advantage as these are now a fundamental part of the business. When you have targeted which area of the business you want to get into, look for a position or an employer that can help you get to where you want to be, even if you don’t go straight in at the level and salary you want to achieve in the long run. Speak to one of our consultants for advice on your own circumstances and objectives.
Are F S People a national company ?
The short answer is Yes. Whilst we are London based we place people all over the UK, and wherever possible we like to meet candidates and clients face to face. The vacancies we have change on a regular basis, and obviously some areas of the country are busier than others
What if I don’t see my area listed in your vacancies ?
Financial services recruitment is fast moving and constantly changing. It is impossible to accurately list every one of the vacancies we have, so if you don’t see your own area listed, call us and find out
Is there a charge for using F S People ?
Not for candidates, but obviously there is for clients.
What do I take with me to interview ?
This will differ depending on the role you’re going for, see our interview preparation page on some of those points. Generally however, your CV and your relevant documents such as certificates etc and just as importantly, any information you have on the role you’re applying for.
How do I go about taking the Industry exams ?
There are various training companies offering tuition but see the useful links page for the websites of the relevant examination boards. There is a charge for taking the exams so preparation is important. Some are written exams and others can be taken online
How long can the recruitment process take ?
Financial services is a highly regulated environment and as such the referencing procedure is very thorough. The more employers you have had, the more references are required. In addition, there are several forms of documentation you’ll need to make available ( see interview preparation ), producing these documents and having them verified early in the process will save time. Typically a successful candidate can wait between 4 – 5 weeks from offer stage to start date.
Is the F S People service totally confidential ?
Of course. We do not put your details forward to any third party without your knowledge, and we NEVER
send out your details on a speculative basis.
Why do you have to know who I work for now ?
Firstly, because there are huge differences in the training given and job roles that exist in financial services. Your current employer will give a good idea as to the training you have had and also the kind of clients you are used to dealing with.
Secondly, it can demonstrate career progression, or the lack of it!
What references would a new employer need ?
Usually all employers over the last 10 years, ( sometimes less for non-regulated roles ) in addition, personal referees are also required so choose them well !
Can’t you just send me the job spec without me registering?
No. Our clients details are confidential until we know that any candidate is suitable.
frequently asked silly questions ...
Would they mind if I turned up casual ?
Yes of course they’d mind. This is your opportunity to make an impression so smart appearance is essential. It does not matter what level you’re interviewing at ……go smart every time. No comedy socks and ties, and if at all possible, no anoraks. And never fall for the “informal chat” scenario, go smart regardless.
Would they see me after working hours or at the weekend ?
No. It does very occasionally happen, but it’s extremely rare. One of the difficult parts of looking for a new position, is getting out to interview, but there’s no way round it unless you’re intending to use a stunt- double as a stand in !
I’m fully qualified, why do I have to do an assessment ?
Because if that’s what the client wants, and you want to work for them, that’s what you’ve got to do.
Everyone going for such positions would have to do it, so why would they make an exception ? If they
hold assessments, it usually because they can learn something from it that will have a huge input as to whether or not to offer you employment.
